Dr. Sylvia Earle is the current explorer-in-residence at the National Geographic Society and Director of Sustainable Seas Expeditions, a five-year program of the Society to explore and photo document the National Marine Sanctuaries. Dr. Earle is a former chief scientist at the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA). She was named TIME magazine’s first “hero for the planet” in 1998. She has led more than 50 expeditions totaling 6,000 hours underwater and holds numerous diving records. Dr. Earle’s books include: “WILD OCEAN: AMERICA’S PARKS UNDER THE SEA”, an introduction to America’s little-known National Marine Sanctuary System; “DIVE”, a book for children ages 8 and up; and “Hello, Fish!” a book for children ages 4-8.
Open to any interested parties or individuals over the age of nine. Since this is a lecture, children under age nine are not recommended to attend.
Note to Cadettes and Senior Scouts: attendance fulfills patch requirements Technology 2 AND Career Exploration 3 for the From Sea to Shore I.P. We will be completing the other patch requirements at Camporee.
Note to Juniors: Fulfills requirements for ECO-ACTION #5 OR Plants and Animals #9 OR Science in Everyday Life #B1
Cost: $10.00 per participant: limited to 500 attendees.
