My First Rocket Launch
Hans Probst age 8
Mr. Mitch Olson invited our family out to see the rockets launch at Robertson Park one Saturday in February. I saw and heard a lot of rockets launching when we got there. I smelled smoke when they launched and they went so high that we couldn’t see them.
Mr. Mitch helped me prepare one of the rockets by:
1. Finding the rocket after it launched
2. Putting the parachute back in the rocket
3. Putting the motor in the back of the rocket
4. Putting a piece of paper inside the rocket
5. Putting a wire with paper in the motor and bending it
6. Putting a plug in the motor
7. LAUNCH!!!!!!!
The rocket launched because the wire was attached to the rocket. The wire formed electricity in it when we pushed the launch button and started the motor. It went about 40 feet high. The parachute came out. When it landed we got the rocket back by running after it.
My Dad told me he had rockets when he was a kid. Since that day we bought about 10 or 14 rockets. My Dad and I now have a whole collection of rocketry items like motors, plugs and more. We stored it in a big box where we organized everything. We also painted all of the rockets. We have a rocket called a mosquito. We painted it red and it is the smallest rocket we have.
My family and I launched rockets at the park. We launched our biggest one and some small ones. One of the rockets called a Sizzler went so high and strong it got stuck all the way in the ground. We had to dig it out.
I believe that rocketry is a really fun thing to do. We are really looking forward to launching rockets in March and April launches.
