Night Launch Strobes
Richard Clark, LUNAR #865
For those of you who are willing to take apart disposable cameras for strobe lights, Safeway has the Kodak MAX 27-exposure cameras with flash on sale for $5.99. (This takes a "safeway club card." If you don't want to expose yourself to their marketing machine, say you forgot your card and give 'em my old phone number -- 408-243-2002. The data will go into a black hole. :)) You can even use the camera first -- shoot the entire roll and wind it to the end. That takes up the film into a regular film can. Then, peel back the top label (right above the words "flash ready light") to expose the latch on the top. Pry this up with a small flat-bladed screwdriver, then open the two exposed latches on the ends of the camera. You can pry the camera open, but be careful -- there are two exposed leads just inside the bottom (near the "develop before" date) which will bite you severely if touched. The main board for the camera will fit in a BT-80 with room to spare, or could be cut and bent to fit in a BT-50. See the night launch presentation linked to the LUNAR site for information on what to do next.
