LUNAR-

I have two topics to share with you...

Item 1: USS HORNET Splashdown Event July 24th (1 day only).
The LUNAR club is invited to participate in this is a public outreach event
again this year. We have set up a booth showing off a wide variety of
rockets, pass out LUNAR Flyers to those who are interested in attending a
launch. Our booth has always drawn a big crowd of people who have lots of
questions. Jack Hagerty usually brings his collection of books for sale.
Members of the AeroPac club usually join us and display their rockets as
well. In the past Erik Ebert has display his impressive Saturn V and Jamie
Clay has displayed Mercury Joe.

We need around 12 volunteers to cover the entire day. Once you have done
your shift, you would be free to wander around and take a look at this
floating museum. The USS Hornet was responsible for picking up the Apollo 11
and 12 astronauts after their lunar landings back in 1969 and 1970.

Item 2: Office of the State Fire Marshal to crack down on High Power
Rocketeers

The Office of the State Fire Marshal (OSFM) is going to start attending
rocket launches around the state to crack down on individuals who are flying
HP motors that have not been approved by their office. I am sure there will
be some unpleasantness if you are caught flying motors that have not been
approved by the OSFM or are flying HP without a CA Pyro 3 license.

Please see the LUNAR website for information on how to obtain a CA Pyro 3
lic.

Reminder: LUNAR Club meeting Thursday 7/15 at the Livermore Library. Look
for a meeting notice shortly.

The next LUNAR Club launch is on Saturday 7/17 at NASA Ames from 0900 to
1300.

Dave
LUNAR President
