Dave finally; please post.

Mike

                                            HEY ALL YOU ROCKET JAMBOREE
STAFFERS, IT'S SHOWTIME!!!

Welcome to Rocket Jamboree!

Well here we are less than 36 hrs to the first launch. I hope everyone is
excited and ready help put on the extravaganza this event has become. We
are sold out

Sunday AM & PM Sessions. Saturday is light at 40 Scouts; the economy
showing it's ugly face. That's 340 scouts and 50 staff and a 220' midway
line up of canopies and activities.

Arrival: Saturday morning please arrive promptly at 8am. There is always
last minute things to do to "be prepared" for the arrival of our scouts.
Saturday is a long day with a off-site dinner break about 5pm then night
launches after dark. (very impressive) The day ends about 8:30pm.

Sunday morning please arrive at 7:30am. We need to be very prompt as
Registration opens at 8am. I need everyone on station for the scouts and
families arrival.  Sunday is much less structured with twice the head count;
non-stop action.

Parking: Parking will be along the fence line that is parallel to the
entrance road. Please park at the direction of the parking staff. We use
staff autos to provide the parking vision to the parents.

Check-In: Please check-in at registration where you will receive your Range
Permit / ID on a lanyard. Then head over to the Trading Post. There the
store keeper will provided you with your RJ hat, RJ neckerchief, RJ slide,
RJ backer patch, RJ event patch, RJ name tag and event vest. You really are
the best appreciated staff.

Registered Scouters please be in full uniform and darn all the RJ wear. If
you already have RJ bling please help us save some budget. Thank-you!

Food: Rocket Jamboree is your host for the weekend. Hotdog or meatball
sandwiches at lunch and beverages during the day are all on the house. If
you feel compelled to help the cause, I thank you in advance.

Site stuff: The site ground in the farm pasture should be dirt clods free.
I haven't seen the field recently. I strongly suggest your most comfortable
/ supportive hiking boots. Please be extra careful as you wander around
out on the launch range; especially you PACE/TIMERS, you have some ground to
cover, let's hope for calm winds. We are for casted for mid 70's all
weekend. Your day/ fanny pack of personal items should include you're water
bottle (remember to use it), sun screen, lip balm, camera (lots of photo
ops), head lamp (we do fly at night), personal snacks.  For your down time;
don't forget your camp chair.

Uniform: This is a full uniform event, right down to the socks. You will be
well dressed with all the above. Please set the example for our scouts.

Job Assignments: Job assignments will be given on site. The lead person for
your job group will brief you on your position. Listen to P.A. for where to
gather. Any issue with your assignment please see me (Mike Gentile) and
I'll try to accommodate needs and some desires. Always remember rule #1,
don't stress Mike out. We have a smaller staff this year. So we will need
to work together so everyone can be relieved several times during the day
for breaks, kybo, lunch at the snack bar and just time to enjoy the event in
motion and see other areas close up.

This is an exciting event and a very fun time. In that vein, I ask all of
our staff to be patient with scouts, parents and each other. A large
portion of our staff is new this year; pulled from the crowd. Some have
never been to the Rocket Jamboree before volunteering to help. Experienced
staffers please share your experience with our new folks. The faster we get
everyone up to speed the better experience our scouts will have.

I can't express my gratitude strongly enough for the help and dedication you
give to the Rocket Jamboree and Scouting. I am truly blessed to work with
all of you to provide this unique experience to the scouts of the Bay Area
and beyond. This year we have seven councils represented with 15 scouts
from the Reno Area Council participating. I know you will give all of them
a warm welcome.

Please feel free to call me with any questions or items I may have missed.
>From here on the best way to contact me is on my cell phone. E-mail will be
very limited in the late evening.

See you all soon. Think October Skies!

Yours in Scouting,

Mike Gentile
