LUNAR!

It has been some time since we have had our newsletter come out, so I want
to bring everyone up to date with what is going with the club.

Bylaws and Policies:
We have come across several recent encounters over the last several months
that had the officers talking and we realized that we have written bylaws,
but we never captured the policies. David Cummings took up the challenge to
document the Policies.

NARCON:
Trip Barber, NAR President, has asked the club if we could host the NAR
Conference (NARCON) in the Spring of 2012. We are looking for a venue that
would supply a large meeting room in a banquet style for about 150 people,
and several smaller rooms for the guest speakers to talk about various
aspects of Rocketry. The Conference would start on a Friday afternoon and
evening with everyone coming into town and gathering together. Saturday is
talks and a banquet dinner. Sunday is for wrapping up the conference. If you
know a place where NARCON could be held for a reasonable cost, please let me
know.

Boy Scout Jamboree:
The LUNAR club will be helping Mike Gentile host the Boy Scout Rocket
Jamboree October 8th and 9th. This event draws Boy Scouts and Cub Scouts
from all over the Bay Area. Mike is looking for 5-6 volunteers for October
8th, and about 10 volunteers for October 9th. This event is a lot of fun,
and it helps the Scouts earn their Rocketry Merit Badge. Please come out and
help out with this event. Please sign up with myself or Mike Gentile
(smmike at comcast.net).

BoD opening:
Our Secretary, David Cummings, has stepped down as our club secretary. David
did an excellent job in his 3 years as club secretary and I want to thank
him for everything he has done to make the club a success. I am looking for
members who want to help shape the club to step up and fill David's
position.

BoD Elections:
The annual BoD elections take place at the January Club meeting. Please
consider helping shape and guide the club. A call for nominations will start
in October.

Newsletter Editor:
Cliff Sojourner has been very busy lately and would like someone to step up
and take over as newsletter editor. Please consider engaging your creative
writing talent, and helping create the news letters for the club. I think
Cliff said the hardest part was getting all the pictures in. Other people
write most of the articles.

NASA Ames - Make Fly Take program:
I have been working with the Ames Educational Directorate on hosting a
Make-Fly-Take program similar to what we used to do at Maker Faire. The
first Make-Fly-Take might occur on Saturday July 16th from 0800 to 1000.
LUNAR would help 25-50 students make the Quest Cyclone and then they would
come out to the launch and fly them. This is a great opportunity to work
with Students and help them learn about rocketry and the hobby. More news on
this will be coming out shortly. Please contact myself if you are interested
in helping.

Ames Launch June 25th:
The Ames launch is on for this coming Saturday June 25 from 0900 to 1300.
Please come out and fly a little and help a little. We will need help with
all the usual position, don't be shy, OJT is available.

David Raimondi
LUNAR President
