Team America Rocket Challenge 2022

Team America Rocketry Challenge (TARC) is an aerospace design and engineering event for teams of US secondary school students (7th through 12th grades) run by the NAR and the Aerospace Industries Association (AIA). Teams can be sponsored by schools or by nonprofit youth organizations such as Scouts, 4-H, or Civil Air Patrol (but not the NAR or other rocketry organizations).

The goal of TARC is to motivate students to pursue aerospace as an exciting career field, and it is co-sponsored by the American Association of Physics Teachers, Estes Industries, the Department of Defense, and NASA.

2022 Team America Rocketry Challenge registration is now open at rocketcontest.org. Teams may register anytime between before and December 12, 2022.

This year’s contest challenges students to design, build and fly a rocket that carries one raw hen egg to an altitude of 850 ft., stays airborne for between 42 and 45 seconds, and returns the rocket to the ground safely. Pay attention to the rules. A large part of the scoring looks at your ability to follow the design criteria as well as the altitude and duration requirements. Note that at the finals, the altitude and duration numbers will change to 825 ft. or 875 ft. determined by a coin toss. The duration will increase or decrease by 1 second.

In addition to the flying part of the contest there is also a presentaion part and a marketing part for teams who want to specialize in other parts of a rocketry program. See the rocketry contest page for information about these other parts of the contest.

LUNAR is honored to support the TARC qualification launches again this year. TARC teams are welcome to participate in the regularly scheduled club launches. The launch fees are waived for all TARC teams. As the deadline approaches in April, special TARC only launches will be scheduled:
