James Marino reports on a model that was the talk of the Tripoli Central California October Skies launch on the 19th. As one flier pulled off of the main road onto the access road to the flying field, a CHP cruiser followed him. He (the flier) was driving a van with some large models strapped to the roof. Everyone's first thought was that the policeman was being overly cautious about terrorism. They started getting their stories together about the legitimacy of the hobby while the organizers started digging out their permits.
To everyone's surprise, the cruiser stopped near the registration tent, the back door opened and out came a PML Ultimate Endeavour with a 54 mm central mount and three 38mm outboards! What had everyone going was the gorgeous paint job that they later found out was done in the CHP paint shops using the same high quality black and white (naturally!) paint as used on the cars. The "Highway Patrol" lettering is the decal used on the trunks of the patrol cars, and the shield decal between them is the one used on motorcycle tanks. Unfortunately, James didn't get the flier's name, nor did he relate how well this flew.
